English Paper Piecing with Helen

Learn the traditional hand-sewing technique of English paper piecing while making a shaped fabric coaster with Helen.

During this practical three-hour class, Helen will demonstrate how to work with two different paper-piece shapes, use two basting methods and join the pieces using two different stitching methods.

You will also learn how to apply Pellon, add the backing and binding, hem the edges and complete some hand quilting.

The finished coaster will measure approximately 15 cm at its longest point and 9 cm wide.

What to bring:

• Three coordinating or contrasting fabric squares, approximately 13 cm square
• One piece of Pellon, approximately 18 cm × 10 cm
• Backing and binding fabric, approximately 18 cm × 12 cm
• Neutral hand-piecing thread
• Polyester sewing thread
• Sharps hand-sewing needles
• Small scissors

Paper-piece templates will be available for use during the class.

If you do not have suitable materials, please arrive early so they can be purchased from Crafty Frog with Helen’s guidance.

Class numbers: Minimum two and maximum eight participants. Bookings will be accepted in the order received. If the class fills before the website is updated, we will contact you and offer either priority booking in a future class or a full refund.
