About the Galah
In pairs or in flocks of hundreds, the Galah is found in open and lightly timbered country throughout most of Australia. It usually feeds on the ground, on seeds of grasses and on bulbous roots which it digs up with its bill.
A flock of these birds is a beautiful sight as they wheel through the air, flashing their silvery-grey backs and their flaming rose-pink fronts.
With the early settlers it was a popular food, being the main ingredient of many 'parrot pies'. Nowadays, however, it is thriving, though on occasion there is a bounty on its head due to its habit of raiding crops and causing considerable damage in agricultural areas.
The Kookaburra, another Ross Original design, would make an excellent contrasting pair.
