Crafty Frog only carry quality fabrics including Zweigart and Permin
Zweigart have been producing high quality needlework fabric since 1877. The fabric is 100% made, with great pride, using high-grade, easy-care materials produced exclusively at the company’s headquarters in Germany. The name ZWEIGART stands for top quality and modern colour trends.
Zweigart's trademark is the ORANGE LINE – an orange thread woven into the edge of all the needlework fabrics.
In 1854 on April 1st, Christian Permin started Permin embroideries in Copenhagen.The main product was embroidery, especially initials on home decoration; curtains, chair sets, bed linen and towels.
In 1919 the company moved closer to the centre of Copenhagen. They started a shop and a design workshop and business grew rapidly. In the light of the growing unemployment in the 1930es the “do-it-yourself” trend grab hold of the Danes. At the same time Permin started to export the embroideries to Sweden. However, during World War II it was difficult to export, so in 1942 the first subsidiary was founded, namely Carl Permin AB in Borås – Sweden.
Today – more than 165 years after Christian Permin started the company – we are fully computerized, though the embroideries are, of course, still made by our skilled designers.
The range, and colours of fabrics offered by Permin is extensive and we hope to be able to add to our existing range.
BREAKING DOWN AIDA FABRIC
When a project calls for Aida fabric, it usually lists a count, which indicates how many squares per inch of fabric. Each square represents a cross stitch and corresponds to one square on a design chart grid. Aida fabric is a popular choice for cross stitch, as it’s easy to use and allows for perfectly-spaced, foolproof stitching. The smaller the fabric count, the larger the squares: for example, 11-count Aida fabric will have 11 squares per inch. Larger squares are easier to count and stitch for beginners.
