Jack is a Tenterfield Terrier

The following information comes from the information leaflet of the Tenterfield Terrier Club of Queensland, Australia

The dog originated in England and it appears that in the 1800's the small pups of the Standard Fox Terrier litters were taken by Fox hunters and bred to dogs along the lines of the Manchester Black and Tan.

There appears to have been many inputs of other breeds over the years including Whippett to develop the dog as it is today. At one stage Chihuaha was used. Cross breeding of any type is now forbidden as the Tenterfield Terrier breeds true to type.

We believe the early settlers, including Ben Hall who resided in the Tenterfield area, first brought out the terrier from England. The dog was then known as a Miniature Fox Terrier.

Tenterfield, in northern New South Wales, was the birthplace of Australian singer/songwriter Peter Allen.
