ISSUE NO. 31 NOVEMBER 2009
Hello and welcome to our last Newsletter before Christmas 2009! Christmas Season is fast approaching, so read on and let’s see if I and my experienced staff can help you out with some gifts for loved ones - and friends!!
CHRISTMAS SHOP HOURS
In order to keep up with the demands of the silly season, I have already extended my opening hours. We are now open from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Saturday’s hours will stay the same - 9.30am to 3.30pm. So please, hop on in and spread the word among your fellow crafters!
PRE CHRISTMAS QUICKIE CLASSES!!
Oh, Joy to the world!! Well, the craft world that is!! Christmas is all about Family and giving with love! There is nothing better than receiving a hand-made gift and to help you achieve that goal our fantastically talented teachers have done it again. They have wowed us with their creativity and come up with some designs for quick and easy to complete projects for Christmas. The projects will include simple techniques and will be able to be completed in class time or soon after at home. Doesn’t that sound exciting!?
The projects are as follows:-
Bonnie Crawford – Hardanger – a Christmas tree ornament with a golden Christmas tree trinket in the centre, a pearl tear drop accent at the base and to add a bit of Christmas bling some green and red sequin accents. Bonnie has very kindly stitched up two beautiful versions of this ornament - one for beginners which can be completed in a couple of hours, and a larger piece for more advanced stitchers, with two tiers to the ornament and DOUBLE the pearl tear drops on the bottom! Thanks Bonnie!
Dates: Tuesdays 8 and 15 December
Julie Collins – Knitted Wire Beading – a beautiful bead and wire skirt for a Christmas candle that will look stunning on your dining table as a centrepiece. It comes together quickly on your knitting needles. So you can easily finish it before Christmas OR better still, whip up a whole set for the table!! Nice one Julie!
Dates: Sat 28 Nov 9.30-12.30, Tues 1, Mon 14, December.
Laura MacKinnon – Cross Stitch – Yes that’s right! We have convinced Froggie to get out from behind the desk!! Laura’s piece is a Naïve Christmas Tree cross stitch with a gorgeous button for the tree pot. And you can’t have a tree without a gold star on the top!! The tree is stitched on a pale golden ribbon with a golden curled wire hanger. Very quick, very simple, but a stunning addition to your ornament collection. Thanks to Julie for her help with this one!
Dates: Mon 7 or Fri 18 December
Lexie James – Beading – Lexie has designed a gorgeous Beaded Bon Bon in Christmas colours. It comes with golden eyes at each end, so you can choose what you are going to do with your finished project. Maybe a tree ornament, a necklace, if you are quick at beading you can add matching earrings to that, or you could include one at each place at the Christmas dinner table instead of the usual Bon Bons! Thanks Lexie!
Dates: Mon 30 Nov or Sat 12 Dec
Ruth Kelly – Needle Felting – Clever Ruth has come up with a lovely colourful needle-felted Christmas tree for you busy crafters – and kids too! The tree is felted over a foam tree shaped cone and has some gorgeous glitz on it including beads and braids. AND if you finish early, Ruth will teach you how to make a key tag too! Two for one, thanks Ruth!
Dates: Thurs 3 or Sat 5 or Wed 9 December
Christina Armstrong – Beaded Christmas Panel / Ornament stitched in peyote stitch.
As part of your class fee you will choose one pattern from numerous original designs. Come along and learn how to stitch these gorgeous Christmas decorations. Suitable for beginners and intermediate beaders. Extra patterns will be available for purchase during the class.
Dates: Sat 28 Nov 1-4pm or Sat 19 December 10-1pm
Belinda Ingram – Embroidery – Belinda has designed a stunning stumpwork gift card for you to make and give to someone special. The design has four beautiful green stumpwork leaves stitched with silk thread and embellished with lovely red beads for the berries. Very festive!! Thanks Belinda!
Dates: Fri 27 Nov, Sat 5 (1.15pm-4.15pm) or Mon 14 Dec
Some of the gorgeous samples are already in the shop and the rest will be ready by the end of this week, so come in and have a look. And you don’t have to choose, they are all quick and easy, so do a few!! The above classes will be run starting next week and go all the way up to the Christmas break, so please contact the shop now (see details above) to get your name down and get a deposit on a seat in the classes.
A deposit of 50% of the total class cost is required to secure your place. If Crafty Frog cancels a class, your deposit will be either refunded, or transferred to another class. If, however, you cancel or do not turn up to a class and a replacement is not able to be found, you will forfeit your deposit.
Class Costs: $35 for 3 hours unless otherwise advised. This cost does not include class requirements unless otherwise advised. A class requirements list will be available for collection when you pay your deposit. All our classes run from 10am – 1pm unless otherwise advised.
Please note all original designs taught remain the property of the teacher concerned and Crafty Frog. While we are happy for you to make and give items taught in our classes, you must ask permission of the teachers before selling completed items and patterns or being paid to teach others.
LEATHER HIDES
We still have a very limited number of leather hides from deer to kangaroo, goat to lamb, available at Crafty Frog – just ask to see them. There is, again, a limited range of colours, but the prices are very very good.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES
As you know we have started our Kids Parties (although there isn’t any reason adults cannot have one too!). The parties have been a great success!!
There is space for a maximum of 10 kids (minimum of 5). Food and drink in the form of fruit, juice and some fresh popcorn will be provided, along with the kits needed to make the items required and a present for the birthday person. The price for a 2 hour party, including all of the above will be $18.50 per child. Party time is between 1.30 and 3.30pm on available Saturdays, and will be held at the shop. For further information and bookings, just call my staff at the shop!
GENERAL SHOP STUFF
We will continue to provide the high level of services and products we have become renowned for, when you come into the shop. Remember though if you are not able to make it into the shop we are always more than happy to post supplies out to you. Generally within Canberra you’ll receive your items the following day and I only charge the postage Aus Post charges me!
HOUSEKEEPING
I have now employed an Office Manager to look after the administrative side of the shop. Her name is Caz Ensor. Caz will be in the shop Mondays and Tuesdays for the foreseeable future, but you can contact her at the shop by phone during the rest of the business week. Caz and the rest of my staff are here to help you so please don’t hesitate to contact them. One of the tasks Caz will be tackling is the newsletter and the mail list. So, if you would like to receive your newsletter by email instead of Snail Mail, or if your addresses details have changed just ring Caz, Julie, Ruth, Kirsty or Jenny at the shop and they will fix your details immediately. Your details are not given out to anyone without your prior approval.
Orders placed at the shop and bookings for classes require a deposit. This applies to all orders and classes.
From all of us at Crafty Frog to all of you, your families and extended families, we wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2010. Thank you for supporting us in 2009 and we look forward to looking after you in 2010.
